A blog by Siena Mr. Reichl lead our behavior lessons this week. Here, we are learning to stay in line and keep up with one another. To celebrate Patriot Day on September 11, 2013, we wrote a book to a marine. He was Mrs. Hollick's former student. This week, HE WROTE US BACK! We were so excited! On Tuesday, Ms. Danna came in and showed us black swallow tail caterpillars. We even get to keep some of them until they make a chrysalis.

A blog by Jordan. How can water be dense, you ask? Mr. Reichl taught us that cold water is more dense than room temperature water. Here, our scientists are observing cold water (dyed blue) sinking to the bottom of a cup. Science rules! Benjamin Franklin was a brilliant man with important things to say. He said, "Well done is better than well said." It means don't tell someone you can do something, show them. This week we were building boats to explore surface tension and buoyancy. The best part was that we got to see if our boat would float. As part of the Journey North project, we each got make a small monarch butterfly to send to a child in Mexico. See you in the spring! A Blog by Aidan D This week during our win time, we focused on how to show respect in the building. We walked the halls quietly and performed skits to demonstrate how to take care of our cafeteria. The last group made an impromptu skit about milk spilling on the floor. Eliot had us laughing Mr. Reichl taught us science this week. We learned about surface tension and how water behaves on different surfaces. We were all impressed about how many drops of water can fit on the head of a penny! Our classroom visitor, Ms. Danna Cornick, visited us to release her monarch butterflies in our butterfly garden. Ms. Danna created a waystation for butterflies as they make their journey to Mexico. A surprising thing happened that afternoon to Siena... To celebrate Patriot Day on September 11, our class wrote letters to one of Mrs. Hollick's former second grade students. Recruit Bryan Wood entered the Marine Corps in August. We wrote a book called If I Could Be Your Drill Sergeant. The kids created hilarious routines for the marines to follow to stay healthy and strong. We hope he enjoys reading them! Our First Two Weeks at Nottingham August 26 - September 6
A Blog by Reagan One day in the first week of school we a toured around the school so the kids from Elk Ridge knew where to go. Also, we built towers with marshmallows and dry spaghetti to learn to work together. Aidan found a very unique caterpillar. We researched the critter and found that it will be an imperial moth. They like to eat pine trees. Can you tell? On the second week we the whole entire school started mileage on Tuesday. On Thursday, September 05, we had a visit from Miss Danna. She brought in butterflies and a praying mantis. We learned about monarch migration. |
