Due to snow and bitter temperatures, we had a abbreviated week. Luckily, there was a break in the weather to allow Ms. Danna to visit. She taught us 2 interesting facts. First, did you know that if you bury a thermometer in snow, it will read WARMER than the air temperature? In fact, is was a full 10 degrees warmer. Secondly, Danna brought in a bald faced hornet nest. Did you know that the hornets build hexagonal shapes because they are a strong shape and do not waste space? Science rules!

Happy Valentine's Day! This week, the children reviewed difficult concepts before the unit test by creating a Bloom Ball. This project required the children to recall details, sequence, summarize, and evaluate one of their anthology stories. Here, Johnny is working on creating a new title for his chosen story. Thank you to Marya for taking such a great picture!
Wednesday marked the 100th day of school. During the day, the children participated in a few activities to celebrate the day. This week, we learned about fact vs author's opinion, created self-portraits of us in 100 years, wrote compare and contrast essays, and investigated rolling motions with cups and homemade roller coasters. |
