This week, the children read a story called Exploring Space to learn how to identify the main idea and details of specific paragraphs. Pictured here, Jack shared a web he created. On Friday, Ms. Danna Cornick arrived with her special critters. Danna has a registered monarch butterfly way station in Nottingham. She released her monarchs with us and a few decided to stick around...on the kids!

Did you know that the planet Uranus spins on its side? Did you know that Jupiter is made of gasses? Our class knows thanks to my student helper who takes 5 minutes a day to teach us something new. We've also learned about the digestive system and the circulatory system. Learning to work as a team is essential in a classroom. Problem solving, asking one another for help, and encouragement make a classroom run seamlessly. Pictured here, the students wrote complete sentences, cut them apart, and put them back together with other classmates to form new sentences. Then, we alphabetized the words. Listening to the kids work together and speak kindly to one another is the best part of my job!
Welcome back to another fantastic year at Elk Ridge Elementary! Our first 4 days together were full of laughter, team building skills, and practicing basic routines and procedures for the classroom. In this slideshow, you will see your children sorting fiction and informational books, responding to a picture graph, learning to problem solve and talk through a gummy bear problem, and sorting cards to compare and contrast.
