On Thursday, we traveled to Wilmington, Delaware to see a play based on the book Jigsaw Jones and the Case of the Class Clown.
Pictured below are just a few of the many activities we have done over the past few weeks. Hover over each picture to read the caption.
This week, the children practiced a few literacy skills that will help to strengthen their reading. We studied cause and effect, noun identification, and r controlled words. Pictured below, the children are using a variety of texts to identify nouns ( people, places, things, animals) with a partner. Using the design process, the class designed and tested catapults that had to launch a foam block at least 1 foot. This week, we learned the steps of the design process by performing an experiment. We investigated the following question: How many drops of water can fit on the head of a penny? We were surprised to learn that we dropped over 30 drops before the surface tension broke! Meet Saskia. Saskia's secret folder holds a special surprise a few times per week. Sometimes, we get to chew gum. Another day, her secret is extra recess. We never know when her bell will ring and make our school day a bit more exciting!
Welcome to second grade! We are off to a wonderful start. Below, the children are reviewing place value by playing a math game with a new friend. I am looking forward to another wonderful year at Elk Ridge!
